Inter Miami youngster Federico Redondo has named which club he hopes to play for one day in the future.

The 21-year-old midfielder only joined the Herons earlier this year, with Inter Miami beating the likes of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to Redondo’s signature, a testament to how highly-rated the Argentine youth international is.

Whilst Redondo’s game time this year has been disrupted due to a number of injuries, the former Argentinos Juniors star is set for a big future at Inter Miami, where a move to Europe is potentially on the cards in the next 18 months.

Yet Redondo has named a surprising club he one day hopes to play for.

Redondo states intention to play for Argentina side Independiente

Speaking to Saca del Medio, Redondo revealed that he one day wants to play for Argentina side Independiente, who the Inter Miami midfielder grew up supporting thanks to his father, Madrid legend Fernando Redondo.

The prospect of Redondo one day returning to his home country to play for the team he supported growing up is a path many top South American players have taken in recent years, with Luis Suarez doing just that with Uruguayan side Nacional.

With Messi once rumored to join Newell’s Old Boys, the prospect of Redondo joining Independiente is more likely than one might think, especially with the midfielder passionate about the idea.

Redondo said: “I hope I play for Independiente. It would be a dream. I know that my father wanted to do it, but he couldn’t because of problems with his knee, but he shared his passion for Independiente with me. We are always keeping an eye on Independiente and Argentinos results, I have affection for them.”

Redondo first needs to make a name for himself at Inter Miami

Redondo is clearly a player with immense potential and one of the highest ceilings in MLS, with the Argentine youth international more than likely moving to Europe once he hits form with Inter Miami.

And making a name in Florida is what Redondo needs to do first before he can even think about planning his long-awaited move to Independiente, where the midfielder will likely want to retire in 15 years or so.

Indeed, Redondo will want to leave a lasting legacy at Inter Miami before heading to Europe, and the time is now for the midfielder to make a name for himself in MLS after arriving in the winter with a huge reputation,
