Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi has once again made history as Argentina reclaimed the Copa America with a 1-0 win against Colombia.

It was a night that will go down in history for all the wrong reasons, as crowd trouble saw kick-off delayed for over an hour, as Messi left the pitch in tears after picking up an ankle injury, one that was caused by the terrible quality of the turf.

With Lautaro Martinez scoring in extra-time, though, Argentina once again claimed their title as the champions of South America, the second of Messi’s career and the fourth major international accolade the Inter Miami star has won.

And in doing so, Messi broke yet another incredible record in soccer.

Messi once again the most decorated player in history after Argentina win

With Argentina winning the Copa America, Messi brought his number of titles for club and country up to 45, making the 37-year-old attacker the most decorated soccer player in the history of the sport.

With Leagues Cup, the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup also up for grabs this year, Messi has a real shot of increasing his record-breaking tally even further if Inter Miami can get the business done in their remaining competitions.

Indeed, Messi’s latest ankle injury could cause some problems for the Herons, though, with the viral images of the incident suggesting that the Inter Miami captain could be out for some time on the treatment table.

However, Messi will be pleased to see Argentina get the job done on Sunday night against Colombia, even with the event itself a complete farce and a poor advert for what’s to come in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Messi will want to win even more silverware with Inter Miami this year

Messi’s status as the Greatest of all Time has been undisputed and proven for some years now, with the Inter Miami star without question the best to ever play the sport given his incredible list of accolades.

Yet with the MLS season far from finished, Messi will want to win even more silverware this year with Inter Miami, especially if the attacker can return from injury sooner than expected.

Messi has proven that he loves nothing more than playing soccer and winning games for his teammates, and the sooner the forward is back on the pitch, the sooner Inter Miami can start believing that more silverware is on the horizon.
