A club president has publicly announced that Inter Miami could be responsible for a potentially huge payday in the summer transfer market.

Herons midfielder Diego Gomez is closing in on a move to Brighton & Hove Albion, with Inter Miami reportedly set to recoup as much as $18m for the Paraguay international, a club record fee for the Florida franchise.

With Gomez expected to move to England until the end of the year, the deal represents a huge win for Inter Miami and MLS, with the 21-year-old the next product from the league to win a mega-money transfer to the Premier League.

Yet for Inter Miami, the Florida franchise won’t be recouping the entire $18m from Gomez’s sale.

Club Libertad president confirms 50% sell-on clause with Inter Miami for Gomez

Speaking to Deportes Uno, Club Libertad president Ruben Di Tore confirmed that the Paraguay side have a 50% sell-on clause with Inter Miami in the even that Gomez was sold by the Herons for a transfer fee.

Di Tore said when asked if Libertad have an agreement with Inter Miami for a future sale of Gomez: “We have 50% of the economic rights in the event of a future transfer.”

Whilst 50% is quite a figure for Inter Miami, the Florida franchise still stands to make a good amount of profit from the sale of Gomez, who was only signed last year from Libertad for an initial $3m.

Indeed, Gomez has earned his move to Europe after a fantastic season with Inter Miami, and although the MLS side will only recoup $9m on paper for the midfielder, the deal still represents excellent value for all parties involved.

Inter Miami could include similar clause in Gomez’s move to Brighton

The fine details of Gomez’s transfer to Brighton are yet to be revealed, yet given how much Libertad are now due from the 21-year-old, there’s a real chance that Inter Miami could include a similar clause.

Brighton are known as one of the few sides in Europe that are profitable when it comes to player sales, with the Seagulls flipping the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo for massive profit.

And if Gomez settles in England, there’s a real chance that the Paraguayn could be sold by Brighton for a huge fee, with Inter Miami potentially set to benefit if such a transfer was to go through.
