Former USA international Herculez Gomez has shared his amazement over one Inter Miami figure who has improved the team with Lionel Messi absent.
It’s been nearly two months since the 37-year-old last played for the Herons, with Messi featuring for Argentina in the Copa America, where the attacker picked up an ankle injury in the final against Colombia.
Wearing a protective boot, it’s unknown how long Messi will be out for, though the latest reports suggest that the former FC Barcelona superstar will miss this weekend’s Leagues Cup opener against Mexican side Club Puebla.
Yet one Inter Miami figure has now been hailed for improving the squad without Messi.

Manager Tata Martino for improving Inter Miami without Messi
Speaking on Futbol Americas, pundit Gomez showered Tata Martino with praise for taking Inter Miami to the next level despite not having Messi or Luis Suarez for the past month, with the Herons winning six of their last seven games.
Whilst the players have earnt a lot of the plaudits this season, Martino has deserved his flowers given everything the Argentine manager has done to take Inter Miami to the next level, and Gomez has done just that this week.
Gomez said when talking about Martino’s impact on Inter Miami in the last month: “I didn’t think they’d be good without Messi, that’s the reality as they’ve shown us before that they’re not good without Messi.
“But this summer, they’re showing us they can be good without just Messi but also Suarez. It’s really impressive what they’ve done, and you have to give Tata Martino credit. People don’t want to hear that, but you have to give him credit here.”

Inter Miami appointed the perfect manager in Martino
Inter Miami knew they had to go big in appointing their new manager to coincide with the arrival of Messi, and Martino has ticked every single box and then some for the Herons.
Having previously worked with Messi and won MLS Cup with Atlanta United, there was no better candidate for the role than Martino, who this year could add more silverware to his trophy cabinet.
As well as getting the best out of Messi, Martino has done exceptional at taking Inter Miami’s other players to new heights, with the Florida franchise future-proofed given their incredible array of youngsters.
