It’s been over two months since Lionel Messi last kicked a ball for Inter Miami, with the reigning Ballon d’Or holder still struggling with injury.
The 37-year-old forward twisted his ankle in the Copa America final last month as Argentina beat Colombia, with Messi adding to his record-breaking trophy cabinet despite ending the tournament in tears.
With Messi confident he will play for Inter Miami before the September international break, there have been some good pieces of news in recent days on whether or not if the former PSG and FC Barcelona superstar will be back soon.
Yet it appears that Inter Miami have been dealt another injury blown surrounding Messi.

Messi ‘likely’ to be out for a few more weeks due to injury
According to the Miami Herald, Messi will miss a few more weeks of action as the forward continues his recovery from injury, with the veteran not even back in practice on grass or even training with the ball.
With the focus on Leagues Cup less than last year, though, Inter Miami are in no rush to bring Messi back, with this month’s MLS tie against FC Cincinnati rightly viewed as the most important fixture this August.
Yet with Messi likely out for a few more weeks, whether or not the attacker will be fit for this fixture is now up in the air, something Inter Miami will be fuming about despite their form in the last two months.
Indeed, Messi’s return needs to come sooner rather than later, and if the Inter Miami captain is not back in time to face Cincinnati, the Herons could be in big trouble in their bid to win the Supporters’ Shield.

Inter Miami could not see Messi in action for as long as three months
Messi’s injury problems have been a big talking point ever since the forward’s blockbuster move to Inter Miami last summer, with the 37-year-old missing 22 games for the Herons through injury since joining in 2023.
And after this latest update, there’s a real chance that this tally will increase, with Messi’s time out since last playing for Inter Miami potentially clocking over into three months, his longest absent period yet with the Herons.
Whilst Inter Miami are succeeding without the attacker, Messi’s return needs to come this month, with fans potentially losing patience over the Argentine’s availability despite his obvious injury problems.
