Inter Miami have been the best team in MLS this season, and a good case can be made that Jordi Alba has been the best defender in the division.

The 35-year-old left-back has been a constant fixture for Inter Miami this year, with Alba scoring four goals and registering ten assists in all competitions for the Herons as the veteran defender is continuing to show his quality.

With Alba also loving life at Inter Miami, it’s safe to say that the left-back made the right decision in joining Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets in Florida last summer, where the defender has been invaluable for Tata Martino.

And former Inter Miami star Kieran Gibbs has now given his verdict on how Alba has performed this season.

Alba showered with praise after ‘excellent’ season with Inter Miami

Speaking on the Inter Miami Weekly Show, the former Arsenal defender hailed Alba for how good the fullback has been this year, with Gibbs noting how good the left-back’s passing has been for the Herons.

Albe recently registered four assists in a single game against Toronto FC, setting a new Leagues Cup record and once again showing MLS teams why the former FC Barcelona star is still one of the best in the world at left-back.

And for Gibbs, the former Inter Miami star is in awe with how good Alba has been this season, with the defender a key reason why the Florida franchise have been as successful as they are in 2024.

Gibbs said when asked about Alba’s performances: “He’s just so accurate with his passing, the chances he can create for the team are just brilliant for Miami as an outlet, he’s been excellent all season.”

MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield success could come down to Alba’s form

With Inter Miami now out of Leagues Cup, the Herons just have two pieces of silverware up for grabs this season in the form of the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup at the end of the year.

And winning both titles could come down to Alba’s form, with the defender showing this season that he is a real outlet for goals and attacking intent for Martino and this current system.

Alba has been the best left-back in MLS this year, and the defender could be massive for Inter Miami in their bid to win a domestic double, something that could cap off the season on a massive high.
