Inter Miami have secured their spot in the MLS play-offs at one of the earliest possible moments in league history.

Saturday’s 2-0 win against FC Cincinnati thanks to a record-breaking performance from Luis Suarez was enough to book the Herons into the MLS post-season, with Inter Miami one of the fastest teams to secure a play-off berth in a 34-game season.

With Drake Callender stating Inter Miami are now focused on winning MLS Cup, the Florida franchise will be intent on clinching the biggest prize in American soccer having missed out on the CONCACAF Champions Cup and Leagues Cup this year.

And pundit Taylor Twellman has now tipped Inter Miami to do something historic this season.

Inter Miami predicted to break MLS regular season points record

Speaking to MLS’s official website, the pundit made the bold claim that Inter Miami could go on to break the New England Revolution’s regular season points record with 73 set back in 2021.

With the Herons currently sat on 56 points with eight games left to go, there’s a real chance that Inter Miami could beat the Rev’s record if they can manage six wins in their remaining fixtures, and Twellman is confident the Florida franchise can do just that.

The former Revolution star said when talking about Inter Miami’s shot at making history: “They don’t mess up, they’ve only lost four times and they’re on pace to break the record set by the Revolution in 2021.

“They came out this year expecting to win multiple trophies, and I get it, they haven’t succeeded in the previous three attempts, but you can mark it down, they’ve already qualified for the play-offs, they’re not losing this Supporters’ Shield lead, and they will ultimately set the record for the most points in MLS history.”

Inter Miami need to be aiming for greatness this season

Inter Miami have been electric this year, a feat made even better due to the fact that Lionel Messi has missed the majority of the season for the Herons due to various injuries and international commitments.

And with eight regular season games remaining, Inter Miami must be doing all they can do achieve greatness in MLS, with the Herons well-equipped to break the Revolution’s all-time regular season record.

Indeed, Inter Miami know they can win games with ease without their star player, and six wins from their final eight is a more than realistic goal heading into the play-offs.
