Lionel Messi hasn’t played for Inter Miami since the start of June, yet the Argentine’s return could be just around the corner.
The 37-year-old forward twisted his ankle in last month’s Copa America final, with Messi since working out in the gym to recover from his latest fitness issue as Inter Miami continue to flourish without their star attacker.
With Tata Martino confirming that Messi is now training with the ball, it won’t be long until the former FC Barcelona superstar is finally back in action and playing for Inter Miami, who have already booked their spot in the play-offs.
And the Herons have now seemingly made a decision of if Messi will play against the Chicago Fire this weekend.

Messi to be rested once more for Inter Miami
According to El Nuevo Herald, Inter Miami will rest Messi for this weekend’s trip to the Windy City with the Herons set for a two-week break after their away tie against the Chicago Fire due to international fixtures.
As per the report, though, Messi is highly likely to be back in action for Inter Miami’s home tie against the Philadelphia Union in mid-September, where the attacker will work on getting back up to match fitness ahead of the MLS play-offs.
With Inter Miami in the driving seat for the Supporters’ Shield and already qualified for the post-season, the Florida franchise are in a good position to ease Messi back into playing in MLS after so long out on the treatment table.
And with Messi’s return now earmarked for mid-September, the Herons need to ensure they’re doing everything right in their bid to get the attacker up to full fitness as soon as possible.

Messi will be desperate to return to MLS action next month
It’s been a long road back to full fitness for Messi, yet at last, it appears that the attacker will be back in action in the coming weeks after the September international break.
And as a result, Inter Miami could be about to become the most dominant force in MLS, with Messi likely to be desperate to get back out there and perform for the Herons in the league.
With play-offs secured, Inter Miami can be cautious with Messi’s playing time, and the forward in turn can give everything he’s got in order to show the league why he’s still one of the best players on the planet.
