‘Really isn’t easy’: Kieran Gibbs blown away by what Sergio Busquets did for Inter Miami vs FC Cincinnati

Inter Miami secured what might go down as one of their biggest wins of the season on Saturday against FC Cincinnati.

The Herons claimed a 2-0 result with Luis Suarez making history with his two goals for Inter Miami, with the win booking Tata Martino’s side their place in the post-season play-offs and giving the Florida franchise a huge boost in the Supporters’ Shield race.

With Sergio Busquets in central defense, the Spanish veteran was impressive on the night as a ten-man Inter Miami kept a clean sheet against a Cincinnati side that earlier this summer scored six past the Herons.

And former defender Kieran Gibbs was impressed with one thing he saw from Busquets.

Gibbs impressed with Busquets’ communication skills against Cincinnati

Speaking on the Inter Miami Weekly Show, the pundit was full of praise for how Busquets and how the former FC Barcelona star organized the defense and got Inter Miami in shape against an aggressive Cincinnati side.

And Busquets’ response to Inter Miami going down a player and how the Herons played out the rest of the game was nothing short of impressive, with the Herons showing how much they’ve improved since the 6-1 loss earlier this summer.

Gibbs said when talking about Busquets’ performance against Cincinnati: “I thought the way they sat in and how Sergio Busquets, especially, the way he communicated with his team and dictated the play at the back.

“He kept Yannick Bright close to him, and I thought the defensive display in the second-half showed just how far this team has come, that really isn’t easy to do, to play with ten men in a big game like that.”

Busquets has evolved at Inter Miami this season

Busquets’ move in the back line has been a surprise for many this year, yet the veteran midfielder has shown that even at 35-years-old, he can still adapt with the times.

The switch has allowed Inter Miami’s midfield to become more robust and active with Yannick Bright a breakout star in the Busquets role, with the former Spanish international impressing in the center-back position.

And for the final weeks of the season, Inter Miami will want to see Busquets keep up his level of performance at the back, with the Herons looking good to win both the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup.
