Inter Miami have been the best team in MLS this season, and the Herons last weekend got a whole lot better with Lionel Messi returning from injury.

The reigning Ballon d’Or holder marked his comeback appearance for Inter Miami in typical Messi style with two goals and an assist in a 3-1 win against the Philadelphia Union, with the Herons one step closer to the Supporters’ Shield title.

With Inter Miami confirming their spot in the play-offs way before Messi’s return, the Florida franchise owe it to every member of their squad for booking their ticket for the post-season with the best player of all time out injured.

And one Inter Miami star is now set to return to training this week from injury.

Matias Rojas set for Inter Miami return after injury lay-off

According to the Miami Herald, Matias Rojas is set to return to Inter Miami training this week after missing a month of action due to injury, with the attacker a key figure for the Herons.

A huge Messi fan, Rojas has been one of Inter Miami’s signings of the season after joining as a free-agent having been released by Corinthians, with the Paraguay international adding versatility and firepower to the attacking line.

Yet like many Inter Miami players this season, injuries have been a problem for Rojas this season, with the attacker making just 15 appearances in all competitions for the Florida franchise, though the 28-year-old has managed an impressive eight goals and two assists.

And with Rojas now set to return from injury this week, Inter Miami have yet another incredible weapon they can add to their arsenal, with the former Racing Club star nothing short of exceptional under Tata Martino.

Rojas could be as important for Inter Miami as Messi in MLS Cup push

Inter Miami have shown this year they are more than just a Messi team, and Rojas has been one of the key players in the Herons’ push for the play-offs and heading into MLS Cup.

The Paraguayan attacker has been exceptional since moving to Florida earlier this year with Rojas good enough to be a star player for an MLS franchise in his own right if Inter Miami weren’t as loaded as they are.

And heading into the play-offs, Rojas could be key for Inter Miami in their bid to win MLS Cup, the title the Herons will want more than anything this season with the Supporters’ Shield within their sights.
