With Messi extending his record-breaking trophy cabinet to 46 titles, the Argentine international rightly deserves all the praise for getting Inter Miami across the finishing line in what was their hardest remaining game of the regular season.

Messi ‘happy’ with Inter Miami after historic Supporters’ Shield win

Speaking to Apple TV, Messi shared how ‘happy’ he felt to finally get over the line with Inter Miami in winning the Supporters’ Shield, with the Herons on the verge of history for some weeks heading into last night’s game against Columbus.

Messi said: “I am so happy the group. At the beginning of the year I said we had a group to fight for this, we took charge from the start, and I am happy to reach our first objective. Columbus was a very tough opponent, defending champion, Leagues Cup champion, a big team and we had to fight until the end.”

With attention now focused on securing the regular season points record in the final two games of the campaign, Messi and Inter Miami will be fueled to go for this historic feat after last night’s huge in Ohio.

Messi will want to create even more history this season with the Herons

With the Supporters’ Shield in the bag, the pressure of Inter Miami securing the title can now be lifted at long last, with Messi and company having their sights set on winning the last two games of the season.

Six points from the New England Revolution and Toronto FC will see Inter Miami set a new record for the most points recorded in a regular season, an achievement the Herons can reach if they can remain focused.

And with preparations for the play-offs now underway, Inter Miami will want to ensure they can add a second title to their trophy cabinet this year by going all the way in MLS Cup, the piece of silverware that everyone in the squad will want to win.
