Inter Miami confirmed their status as the best team in MLS this regular season by confirming the Supporters’ Shield title against the Columbus Crew.
A Lionel Messi masterclass secured a 3-2 win for the Herons away in Ohio as Inter Miami clinched their first title of the season, with Luis Suarez also on the scoresheet in what will go down as a historic night for Tata Martino’s side.
With all eye snow on the post-season play-offs, Inter Miami will be determined to win a domestic double this year with Messi and company in fine form heading into the MLS Cup push, where even more history could be made.
And Martino has now made a big claim about Inter Miami after last night’s historic win.

Martino backs Inter Miami to build something ‘special’ after Columbus Crew win
Speaking to the press after the win, Martino claimed Inter Miami have the potential to become something ‘special’ in MLS having secured the Supporters’ Shield against the Columbus Crew.
MLS is no strangers to franchises becoming dynasties from David Beckham’s LA Galaxy to Toronto FC’s feared side in the mid-2010s with the likes of Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley and Sebastian Giovinco.
And for Martino, Inter Miami can join the annuals of MLS’s greatest teams, something that could happen given the immense depth the Herons have in their squad and the appeal the Florida franchise have across the world.
Martino said after the win: “I’ve always said Columbus is the best team in the league because of their continuity and their titles, but now we are showing that we are building a franchise that can do special things, a team that expects to win.”

Inter Miami can’t slow down after immense success this year
Pulling off the signing of Messi and the success that transfer has all led to this moment, with Inter Miami the best team in the regular MLS season and looking like strong favorites for MLS Cup this post-season.
Yet the Heron’s are far from done, with progress and building on from this year’s success something Inter Miami need to make a top priority for 2025 regardless of what happens in the play-offs this year.
Whether it be another superstar signing or adding more pieces to the squad, Inter Miami have to build from this year’s incredible success to become an even bigger side, with 2025 set to be huge for the Florida franchise.
