'No one expects us': Atlanta United's Dax McCarty shares honest verdict on facing Inter Miami and Lionel Messi

Inter Miami face Atlanta United on Saturday in the second of a best-of-three play-off series with the Five Stripes.

Having won last Friday at Chase Stadium, another win on the weekend would book Inter Miami’s place in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, with rivals the Columbus Crew already potentially out after losing to the New York Red Bulls.

With Inter Miami now linked with a move for Neymar, things are looking very good for the Herons, who are the strong favorites to win MLS Cup after ending the regular season with the Supporters’ Shield and the records-point total.

And MLS legend and Atlanta midfielder Dax McCarty has shared how he feels facing Inter Miami and Messi.

Atlanta’s McCarthy not afraid to face Messi and Inter Miami

Speaking to reporters ahead of this weekend’s MLS play-off tie, the veteran midfielder revealed that he isn’t scared about facing Messi and Inter Miami, with McCarthy bringing up how well Atlanta have done against the Herons this season.

Although Atlanta lost 2-1 in Florida last week, the Georgia franchise have shown this season that they know how to push Inter Miami’s buttons, with the Herons failing to beat the Five Stripes in the regular season.

And for McCarthy, Inter Miami will face a hard test at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this weekend, with Atlanta raring to go and ready to show the rest of MLS just how good they can be against the best in the country.

McCarthy said: “No one expects us to advance out of the series, but we have to have that internal belief that we’re not scared, and we’re not. We took four points off Inter Miami this year. We need to take a lot of confidence and momentum with that. We’ll be ready to play on Saturday. I know all the guys are excited.”

Inter Miami need to prepare for a big challenge on Saturday

Although the Herons have one foot in for the next round of the MLS play-offs, a win on Saturday is not guaranteed, with Atlanta expecting as many as 70,000 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in what will be a tense game for the Florida giants.

And Inter Miami need to be as prepared as possible to face Atlanta, who are one of the great modern sides in MLS and a team who have shown over the years just how good they can be when in form.

Indeed, Inter Miami have everything needed to ease past Atlanta, but a win isn’t in the bag just yet, and the Herons need to do all they can to ensure they secure a professional win in Georgia on Saturday.
