Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami contract is due to expire in 2025, with the Argentine holding an option to extend his deal by an extra year.
The former FC Barcelona superstar shocked the world in 2023 after signing for Inter Miami having been released by PSG, with Messi leading the Herons to Leagues Cup in his first few weeks in Florida before winning the Supporters’ Shield this year with a record regular-season points total.
Although Messi and Inter Miami’s season came to a premature end in the MLS play-offs, 2024 has been a big step forward in the right direction for the Chase Stadium side, who are close to appointing Javier Mascherano as their new head coach.
And Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas has now shared if he predicts Messi to still be at the club in 2026.

Messi tipped to still be an Inter Miami player through 2026
Speaking to the press, Mas made a confident prediction that Messi will still be Inter Miami’s no. 10 throughout 2026, a year that will potentially go down in history for soccer in the United States.
As well as Inter Miami beginning life in their new stadium, the FIFA World Cup returns to America, with Messi expected to play for Argentina in what will likely be his final major international tournament for the reigning world champions.
And Mas also believes Messi will be thriving with Inter Miami come 2026, with the Herons’ co-owner saying when asked about Messi’s future: “Messi is under contract through 2025. Leo and I sit and we’ll discuss the future.
“As I’ve said it before and I will repeat now, I fully expect in the opening of our new stadium in 2026 in Miami and the opening of our 2026 season, hopefully, after a trophy-laden 2025 campaign, that Lionel Messi will be our no. 10.”

Inter Miami’s future has never looked brighter
Even after the disappointing exit in this season’s play-offs, Inter Miami fans have plenty of reasons to be excited for the club’s future heading into 2025 with Mascherano set to take over from Tata Martino.
And with Inter Miami’s owner now all-but confirming that Messi will be around until the end of the 2026 season, there’s a real chance that the Herons can lay down the seeds to build a dynasty in MLS for years to come.
Indeed, 2025 will be the biggest year in Inter Miami’s short but eventful history, and Messi being fit, healthy and playing will be instrumental to the potential success the Herons can experience next season.
