The MLS season is officially over for 2024 with the LA Galaxy winning MLS Cup, meaning transfer season is upon us for the likes of Inter Miami.
The Herons have already made some big off-season moves with the appointment of Javier Mascherano as head coach, replacing Tata Martino in what will be the young Argentine manager’s first role at club level.
With Mascherano already interested in signing Angel Di Maria with Inter Miami also linked with the likes of Neymar, some big-name additions are on the cards for the Herons heading into the January transfer window.
Yet one Inter Miami player has already confirmed his departure from the club.

Nicolas Freire announces Inter Miami exit on Instagram
Taking to Instagram, defender Nicolas Freire confirmed he will be leaving Inter Miami, with the center-back set to return to Mexican side Pumas with the Argentine’s loan deal not becoming a permanent one despite the Herons reportedly holding the option.
Freire posted: “It’s been a while since I enjoyed being in one place so much. Good people still exist in football and here I found a lot thank God. What a year. Besides fulfilling my dream of playing with the greatest of all time, I was able to share with great players and professionals.
“Thank you guys for such endurance. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment, on and off the field. Thank you Inter Miami for treating me like one of your family. I will always keep them in mind.”
Making 14 appearances in all competitions for Inter Miami, Freire’s season was cut short after the defender ruptured his ACL, forcing the Herons to dip into the summer transfer market to sign a replacement.

Freire could have been a great permanent signing for January
Although Inter Miami fans saw Freire for less than 15 games this year, the 30-year-old defender showed enough at the back to suggest that he could be a long-term member of the squad had his loan deal become a permanent one.
Yet the decision has now been made for Freire to return to Mexico with Pumas, with Inter Miami likely to dip into the transfer market to sign a replacement with options looking light heading into the 2025 MLS season.
Indeed, Freire was impressive whenever given a chance to play for Inter Miami, and the defender will be disappointed that his time in Florida has come to an end after a season that was mostly taken away from him due to injury.
