Report: Inter Miami eyeing Argentina player to replace star who is ‘more important’ than Lionel Messi

Inter Miami’s signings have followed a certain theme since the arrival of Lionel Messi, with Argentine and FC Barcelona-linked players all the rage.

This year alone has seen the arrival of former Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez with Argentine players Nicolas Freire, Federico Redondo and Oscar Ustari all join Inter Miami, with the Herons also appointing Javier Mascherano as their replacement for Tata Martinio.

With Inter Miami linked with a move for Neymar and Mascherano keen to bring in Angel Di Maria, this trend of signing Argentines and former Barcelona players looks set to continue heading into the January transfer window, where spending could hit record levels.

And Inter Miami are now eyeing an Argentine who could replace a key player in the squad.

Inter Miami eye Nahuel Losada as potential Drake Callender replacement

According to Uriel Iugt, Inter Miami are interested in Lanus goalkeeper Nahuel Losada, with Ole further reporting that the 31-year-old Argentine is being eyed as a replacement for Drake Callender.

Losada kept five clean sheets in 17 appearances for Lanus this season with the goalkeeper conceding 23 goals, with Mascherano seemingly keen to upgrade in between the sticks for Inter Miami heading into 2025.

However, the Herons could face some resistance from fans if they are to replace a fan favorite in Callender, who Kieran Gibbs this year hailed as ‘more important’ to winning trophies for Inter Miami than Messi.

With Callender a full USA international and one of the key players for Inter Miami in their Supporters’ Shield winning campaign, replacing the 27-year-old could be a poor decision from the Florida franchise, especially with Losada not that much of an upgrade.

What else has been said about Inter Miami’s Callender this year?

Callender was influential for Inter Miami in last year’s Leagues Cup win, with the run to the title putting the goalkeeper in the global spotlight and catapulting his reputation to levels the shot-stopper would never have imagined.

And the USA international’s form this year has again been impressive, with Julian Gressel lauding Callender as ‘awesome’ after a strong run of form at the end of the regular season, with Gibbs praising the goalkeeper as one of Inter Miami’s most underrated players in 2024.

Indeed, replacing Callender would be a huge mistake for Inter Miami this January, and the USA international has more than shown why he must continue with the Herons as their no. 1 after another strong year between the sticks.
