Chelsea star Cole Palmer weighs in on Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo debate, ‘he’s the best’

It’s a debate that could go on for centuries and people will forever be divided for one reason or another, it is Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi or Al-Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo?

Of course, the question we’re asking is who is the best soccer player out of the two?

There is no doubt that both deserve to be in a league of their own for their un-humanlike ability on a soccer field but only one can go down as the true greatest of all time.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney recently chose Lionel Messi as the GOAT.

However, Roy Keane wasn’t so sure Messi was the GOAT, naming three players he would put above the record-breaking Ballon d’Or winner.

One current player has recently had their say on the debate.

Cole Palmer is team Messi

Chelsea’s Palmer is perhaps one of the hottest properties in soccer right now and the 22-year-old has left people in no doubt as to who his true GOAT is.

The reported Manchester United fan shocked many with his answer when he spoke to the Premier League’s social media team.

Asked which past and present sports stars he would want to spend Christmas dinner with he wasted no time giving Messi a shoutout.

He said simply: “Lionel Messi because he’s the best footballer ever.”

Palmer isn’t the only superstar to give the Argentine his praise in recent weeks. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal explained how he is inspired by Messi.

Palmer likened to Messi

Palmer is tearing up the Premier League right now and last season with Chelsea scored a breathtaking 22 goals and contributed another 11 assists.

This season he is continuing where he left off and already has 12 goals and six assists in just 18 league games.

Going back to October the Chelsea star was likened to Messi by former England and Barcelona striker Gary Lineker for a pass he made leading to a goal against Newcastle United.

Speaking on the Rest Is Football Podcast, Lineker said: “That pass, the vision and awareness, as well as the weight of pass.

“I hate to say it but it was almost [Lionel] Messi-esque in the way that of ‘how did he see that pass?’

“I mean, pwoar, what a talent.”

Inter Miami fans would certainly like to see Palmer alongside Messi, perhaps David Beckham could try and tempt him to Chase Stadium.
