It is very rare for Inter Miami’s co-owner David Beckham to speak on the future of any of the team’s players, it seems Lionel Messi is the exception.

Messi is yet to sign a new contract with the Herons and rumors about his future are continuing to circulate.

While Messi may not have signed an extended deal with the club just yet, he will remain a vital part of the team for the 2025 MLS season. Inter Miami face a tough task against New York City in their season opener and Messi will play a crucial part in any team success.

Beyond the 2025 season, Messi’s future remains uncertain, but Beckham has shared the Argentine’s dream destination.

Messi reveals future to Beckham

It is very rare for owners and players to have a bond as close as Beckham and Messi but their honest approach and respect for each other is clear to see.

Beckham has spoken openly about his excitement about having Messi with Inter Miami and he is never short of praising the star.

Despite now being 37 there appears to be no slowing down in the ability of the Argentine. Messi was named the 2024 MLS MVP and will be looking to help the team succeed under new manager Javier Mascherano.

Messi has made no secret of his love for Barcelona and he is set for a return thanks to Luis Suarez. He and his teammate Suarez will play in the ‘The Luis Suarez Cup’ against the Spanish giants.

While this may be a fleeting return for Messi it appears he has shared with Beckham that his future may lay with Barca.

Speaking at the Economic Forum in Davos Beckham said: “I would like Messi to live in Miami when he retires, but Leo told me that he only thinks about living near the Camp Nou.

“There is no player who loves Barcelona as much as he does. You can see the Barca crest on his leg and even on his water bottle.”

Messi still has much to offer Inter Miami

The record-holding Ballon d’Or winner is loved by his Inter Miami teammates for his frightening ability but also his openness to share his wisdom.

Youngster Santiago Morales has benefited from Messi’s help and Fafa Picault announced when he joined how excited he was to train alongside the great.

With the 2026 World Cup being held in the US, Mexico and Canada many believe that Messi will look to stay with the Herons through until the tournament, something that would be music to the ears of fans.

Inter Miami teammate Oscar Ustari wants to see Messi at the World Cup with his nation Argentina, as they look to defend their crown.

With the World Cup some way away Messi will be looking to fulfil his promise of a ‘stronger’ season from Inter Miami this campaign.
