Inter Miami manager Tata Martino has shared more information on when Lionel Messi could be back from his latest injury.
The Argentine international twisted his ankle in the Copa America final, resulting in Messi being forced off as the 37-year-old attacker missed Inter Miami’s win last night against Toronto FC, with the forward expected to miss this weekend’s clash with the Chicago Fire.
With Messi’s participation in MLS All-Star week also under threat, there’s a real chance that Inter Miami could be without their star forward for a number of matches, with Leagues Cup also back again at the end of this month.
And Martino has now offered the latest update on Messi’s fitness.

Inter Miami to take no risk in speeding up Messi’s recovery from injury
Speaking to the press after last night’s 3-1 win against Toronto, Martino revealed that Inter Miami will not take any type of risk to push forward Messi’s recovery, with the Herons taking the safe road for the Argentine.
With Messi missing numerous games last year after being constantly rushed back, Inter Miami have learned their lesson this season in what needs to be done to ensure the 37-year-old attacker is as fit as possible.
And with Messi out indefinitely, Inter Miami seem to be following a smart and sensible plan in regards to how their superstar forward can return to full fitness, with the 37-year-old key to the Florida franchise’s MLS success.
Martino said on Messi’s fitness: “The club’s medical report came out and the new information is that. Regarding when he could come back, he will be evaluated week by week and we will see what his recovery is like, we won’t be taking any type of risk.”

Herons are being very smart on how to treat Messi’s recovery
Inter Miami learned the hard way last year on what happens when you cave to the demands of fans and rush Messi back early from recovery, with the results proving to do more bad than good.
And after Martino’s latest comments, Inter Miami taking the safest possible route for Messi in his recovery is the right thing to do given how much time there is between now and the Herons’ huge MLS tie against FC Cincinnati.
Indeed, Inter Miami need Messi for later on in the year rather than for the now, and keeping the attacker as well rested as possible will go a long way in the attacker returning to his best for the Florida side.
