Tata Martino has given the latest on Luis Suarez’s injury after the Inter Miami forward returned to Leagues Cup action this weekend.
The Uruguay international missed MLS All-Star week, despite featuring in two games for the Herons upon returning from the Copa America, increasing fears that Suarez had picked up an injury and joined Lionel Messi on the treatment table.
However, Suarez was back in the starting XI this weekend in Leagues Cup action against Club Puebla, with the striker scoring on the night, though the 37-year-old admitted that his knee had been acting up.
And Inter Miami manager Martino has now shared the latest on Suarez’s fitness.

Suarez ‘growing in match fitness’ after Inter Miami return
Speaking to the press after Inter Miami’s 2-0 win against Puebla, Martino revealed that Suarez’s fitness is heading in the right direction after the striker played 85 minutes for the Herons at Chase Stadium on Saturday night.
With Messi’s return still unknown, Inter Miami will have to rely on Suarez in the coming weeks if they’re to retain their Leagues Cup title, and Martino is seemingly confident that the attacker will soon return to full fitness.
Martino said when asked about the state of Suarez’s fitness after missing MLS All-Star week: “It is a knee that he works with permanently week by week. There are weeks when it is better and there are weeks when it is not so good.
“On the other hand, we know that Leo Campana came off the back for five or six games playing with the team, whereas Suarez came back after playing very few minutes at the Copa America. He played very little and when we see that he is doing well, that he is growing in match fitness and form.”

Herons need to be cautious with Suarez’s fitness this summer
Although Suarez hardly played for Uruguay at the Copa America, it’s clear that the striker’s fitness isn’t as good as it could be this summer, with the forward’s knee once again causing some problems.
As a result, Inter Miami need to be cautious when it comes to playing Suarez, who at 37-year-old needs as much rest as possible if he’s to be fully fit for upcoming games this summer.
Indeed, Suarez showed on Saturday against Puebla that he’s on the right track and looking good for someone who isn’t still fully fit, and Inter Miami will hope the forward is back to his best in the coming weeks as Leagues Cup continues to progress.
