Inter Miami have reportedly made their move to sign a former FC Barcelona captain who played alongside Lionel Messi.

The Herons have arrived in the summer transfer market at last after signing David Martinez from River Plate last week, with Tata Martino already impressed with what he’s seen from the Paraguay international.

With Inter Miami also linked with the likes of Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez, a superstar name could be about to make a move to Florida this summer to link up with the likes of Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.

And it appears that the Herons have launched an attempt to sign one such player.

Inter Miami move to sign former Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto

According to Pasion Futbol, Inter Miami have made an approach for Sergi Roberto, who is officially a free-agent having left Barcelona this summer after the Spanish international’s contract came to an end.

A player who Messi played almost 250 games alongside during their time together at Barcelona, Roberto is expected to sign for a new club this summer having ended his career with the Catalan giants after 14 years.

With Arsenal also believed to be interested in Roberto, Inter Miami making an approach for the versatile fullback is a big sign of intent from the Florida franchise and their plan to make the Herons one of the biggest clubs in the world.

And if Inter Miami can sign Roberto, it will be another statement transfer from Tata Martino’s side, who this year could win as many as three trophies if they can maintain their current form in all competitions.

Roberto would be an immense coup for the Herons this summer

With the center-back issue solved, Inter Miami can now start focusing on who their next superstar signing could be, and Roberto would fit the bill nicely for the Herons this summer.

At 32-years-old, Roberto is at a stage in his career where MLS could be appealing for the right-back, with a reunion with the likes of Messi, Busquets and Jordi Alba something that the defender might be open to.

Indeed, Roberto’s former Barcelona teammates are clearly loving life in Florida, and the La Masia graduate could be keen on making a similar move if Inter Miami can reach an agreement with the Spanish international.
