Inter Miami have been linked with a number of top players this summer, and Cesar Montes has emerged as a target in recent days.

Montes has been rumored with a move to Inter Miami with the Mexico international believed to be open on leaving Almeria for a return to North America, with the 27-year-old center-back one of El Tri’s most well-known players.

Although Inter Miami have signed a defender this summer in the form of David Martinez, another body in the position could do the Herons a world of good heading into the MLS play-offs, with the backline in need of as much quality as possible.

And Montes has now come out and confirmed is happening this transfer window regarding his future.

Montes confirms he will be staying at Almeria despite Inter Miami interest

Speaking to Lavoz de Almeria, the former Monterrey star revealed that he has no intention of leaving Almeria this summer, with Montes keen to continue with the Spanish club despite interest from Inter Miami.

Almeria were last season relegated from La Liga, bringing up a real expectation that Montes would leave for a top-flight club given his immense experience with the Mexico national team and his resume in recent years.

However, Montes has instead doubled down and confirmed that he’ll be staying with Almeria, a decision that will surprise Inter Miami supporters as well as fans of the 27-year-old defender given his quality.

Montes said on his future: “I am an Almeria player. There are two weeks left of the transfer market and I have worked very well with the manager. He sees me as one of the squad. I would love to stay, my family is comfortable here, my children are enjoying the city to the fullest. I am committed to the club.”

Herons have to respect Montes’ brave decision

Montes has managed something few top professionals would do in this day and age, reject a move to a big club despite enduring relegation the season beforehand.

The Mexico international is clearly good enough to play in some of the biggest leagues in all of soccer, with Inter Miami a logical move for Montes having gone down with Almeria last season.

However, the defender has made his decision for himself and his family, and Inter Miami have to respect Montes’ choice even with it coming as quite a surprise for many fans.
