Lionel Messi is yet to return from his ankle injury suffered in the Copa America final, with Inter Miami without their star player for the last 11 games.
Sitting top of the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings yet eliminated from Leagues Cup, the Herons have a much-needed break in their schedule ahead of the return of league action at the end of the month, with Messi working to return to face FC Cincinnati.
Although Messi is unlikely to be back until mid-September, the Argentine seems determined to do all he can to be back on the pitch for Inter Miami this month, where the 37-year-old attacker being back for the huge MLS tie against Cincinnati a huge boost potentially in the making.
And teammate Julian Gressel has now shared what he’s noticing about Messi in training.

Messi ‘working every day’ to recover from ankle injury
Speaking on Offside with Taylor Twellman, Gressel noted that Messi is working hard to return from injury, with the forward at Inter Miami’s facilities every day to get back on the pitch ahead of the MLS season run-in.
With Messi putting in the hard yards to return to action, it’s encouraging news for Inter Miami supporters and neutrals that the forward is keen to get back onto the pitch, with Gressel’s update on the forward a convincing one.
The USA international said when asked about when Messi could be back and how his recovery is going since returning from the Copa America: “He’s starting to do some more rehab work, it’s just progressing through that.
“The boot is off, so that is now obviously the next stage of his recovery to get stability back. I see him working here every day, if that’s with the physio or in the gym now. He’s on his way, hopefully, we can get him back sooner and later.”

Messi update should give Inter Miami hope of a quick return
Messi’s ankle injury has caused a lot of concern with supporters on when the Argentine will actually be back playing, with Inter Miami fans set to go three months without seeing the attacker in action.
Yet after Gressel’s update, there’s a real chance that Messi could be back sooner than expected, with the forward seemingly hard at work to do all he can to get back on the pitch soon.
Indeed, Messi is a player who is not used to being out injured for as long as this, and the 37-year-old will be eager to return for Inter Miami before the end of the month and the September international break.
