Weston McKennie has emerged this summer as a target for MLS clubs, with Inter Miami one of the teams chasing the USA international.

Inter Miami are believed to have made an offer for McKennie, with Juventus open to selling the 25-year-old midfielder as part of Thiago Motta’s plan to overhaul the Serie A giants and to raise funds for new signings.

With McKennie yet to even hit his peak and already a top performer in Europe, the prospect of the former Schalke 04 star heading back to America to join an MLS team seems slim given where the midfielder currently is at in his career.

Yet McKennie has responded to a proposal from an MLS team.

Inter Miami target McKennie rejected FC Cincinnati transfer proposal

According to GiveMeSport, McKennie has turned down an approach from FC Cincinnati despite some serious plays from the Ohio franchise to bring the midfielder back to the United States.

As per the report, McKennie visited Cincinnati’s facilities as Inter Miami’s MLS rivals made a real push to sign the Juventus midfielder, a move that the America international ultimately rejected.

With McKennie turning down what was likely a hefty offer from Cincinnati, there’s a real chance that Inter Miami might be fully out of the race for the Serie A star, who is seemingly not open to a move to MLS just yet in his career.

Indeed, a return to America could be on the cards for McKennie in the years to come, but for now, the likes of Inter Miami might have to wait on the sideline to make their move for the 25-year-old.

McKennie might consider MLS move after the 2026 FIFA World Cup

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming to the United States in two years time, there’s every chance that MLS teams will pull out a lot of stops to bring America’s biggest and best stars back to their homeland either before or after the tournament.

And with McKennie already in talks with an MLS team in Cincinnati, Inter Miami could consider a move for the Juventus dynamo in 2026, when the midfielder might be more open to returning to the United States.

As we know, Inter Miami are the biggest club in MLS in terms of global outreach and brand appeal, and McKennie could be tempted to make the move to Florida if a good enough offer can be made in the coming years.
