'Less likely to win': Inter Miami told 'unbelievable' player simply can't leave this summer

The summer transfer window might be over for Inter Miami, yet for the rest of the world, things are about to go into overdrive.

Like many quirks within MLS, the summer window in which teams can make signings from other clubs shuts a full two weeks before the European market, meaning Inter Miami potentially find themselves in danger of losing out on top players without having the means to find a suitable replacement.

With the free-agent market as deep as it is, though, the Herons could be fine if a key figure from the roster leaves for Europe, with Inter Miami linked with the likes of James Rodriguez and Sergi Roberto.

And Inter Miami have now been urged to keep hold of one important player in particular.

Inter Miami told to keep Diego Gomez to increase their silverware chances

Writing for MLS’s official website, pundit Matt Doyle made the argument as to why Inter Miami need to keep Diego Gomez no matter what this summer, with the Herons leading the Supporters’ Shield race.

Gomez is set to join Brighton & Hove Albion for a club-record fee, with the midfielder expected to move to the Premier League in January, and Doyle has urged the Herons to go through with this plan.

Doyle wrote on Gomez’s influence at Inter Miami: “Keep in mind Miami are still in talks to move Diego Gomez to Premier League side Brighton. If he leaves this month instead of in January, I’d consider knocking this grade down a bit.

“I don’t think he’s quite irreplaceable, but selling him – even for a record fee – makes this team less likely to win trophies. And that’s the name of the game, right?”

Gomez will be influential in the Herons winning trophies this year

Gomez has been one of Inter Miami’s best players this year and is a standout candidate for one of the breakout stars in MLS this season, with the Paraguay international influential as to how the Herons have become as good as they are.

And if Gomez does remain with Inter Miami for the remainder of the year, the Florida franchise will be on the road to winning silverware, whether it be both the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup or one or the other.

Indeed, Gomez has deserved his blockbuster move to Brighton, and if the midfielder can end his time with Inter Miami on a high, it will be the perfect send-off for the 21-year-old before he heads to the Premier League.
