James Rodriguez is one of the biggest names in the world of soccer, which meant it was no surprise that Inter Miami were linked with the Colombian international this summer.

Rodriguez was rumored with a move to Inter Miami after becoming a free-agent earlier in the year, with the former Real Madrid star then leading his national team to the Copa America final where Lionel Messi’s Argentina came out on top.

Since the end of the competition, Rodriguez’s future has been a talking point amongst supporters, with the playmaker seemingly having options from all over the world after terminating his contract with Sao Paulo.

Yet Rodriguez has now officially signed for a new club having been linked with Inter Miami.

Rodriguez officially signs for La Liga side Rayo Vallecano

As per the 33-year-old’s official Twitter account, Rodriguez has made the decision to join top-flight Spanish side Rayo Vallecano, with Inter Miami once again missing out on a top superstar target.

With Inter Miami already missing out on Raphael Varane and Alexis Sanchez this summer, adding Rodriguez to the list will come as another blow for the Herons.

Indeed, the former Everton star is a player who would fit MLS and the Inter Miami system alongside Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets, with Rodriguez a player who would again boost the Florida franchise’s reputation.

Yet a move to Spain is what Rodriguez has opted for this summer, and for Inter Miami, they will again return to the drawing board on which superstar name they will want to sign next heading into 2025.

Inter Miami need to put in the groundwork now for future superstar signing

After last year’s arrivals of Messi, Busquets and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami have rightly become the MLS team the majority of big-name players want to join if given the chance.

Yet having missed out on a number of players this summer, Inter Miami need to be more proactive heading into 2025 and the winter transfer window, the market where MLS teams tend to do their biggest and best work.

With Inter Miami expected to be challenging for everything again next year, a big-name signing would be welcome at Chase Stadium, and the Herons need to ensure they’re putting in the work early on any potential superstar targets they have their eyes on.
