Inter Miami have once again added a new player linked with Lionel Messi to their roster in the form of goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.

Injury to CJ dos Santos has left Inter Miami bare in the goalkeeping department, with Drake Callender the only senior option available for the Herons heading into this weekend’s MLS tie with the Philadelphia Union.

Yet Inter Miami have managed to remedy this problem with the signing of Ustari, with the 38-year-old goalkeeper joining as a free-agent after a storied career with the likes of Boca Juniors and Pachuca.

And sporting director Chris Henderson has now shared his verdict on the signing of Ustari.

Inter Miami director excited by Ustari’s arrival

Speaking to Inter Miami’s official website, Henderson hailed the arrival of Ustari, with the Herons’ sporting director happy to have brought in an experienced goalkeeper for the remainder of the season.

With Ustari also happy to be reunited with Messi, the former Argentine international could be important in keeping morale up in the squad heading into the play-offs, and Inter Miami seem pleased with their business in bringing in the goalkeeper.

Henderson said when asked about the signing of Ustari and the impact the goalkeeper will have at Inter Miami: “We’re pleased to incorporate an experienced player like Oscar to add depth to our goalkeeping group for the remainder of the season.

“His addition will be key during this final stretch of the campaign as CJ dos Santos is currently recovering from an injury and Cole Jensen continues to develop, gaining professional experience with Inter Miami CF II in MLS NEXT Pro.”

Herons have done well to add Ustari to their roster this month

With Callender the established no. 1 at Inter Miami, having a good backup could be vital in keeping the USA international on his toes in training and performing in matches for the Herons.

And Ustari will do just that, with the veteran goalkeeper a former Argentine international and a player with over 400 appearances across some of the biggest leagues in soccer in the last 20 years.

As a backup for Callender, Ustari is as perfect an option as they come for Inter Miami, and the keeper will be keen to push his US counterpart to the peak of his potential in the coming weeks.
