Inter Miami have been on a tear in recent months, yet last night’s result against Atlanta United will feel like a blow for the Herons.
The Floridan franchise blew a 2-1 lead late on to draw 2-2 against the Five Stripes, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez unable to make an impact on the game from the bench despite some good chances from the Inter Miami attackers.
With Leonardo Campana making history to become Inter Miami’s all-time leading goalscorer, though, it wasn’t a total night to forget for Tata Martino’s side, with the Ecuador international etching his name into Herons’ folklore.
And Bradley Wright-Phillips was impressed with what he saw from Campana in Atlanta.

Campana hailed for stepping up for Inter Miami despite Suarez competition
Speaking on MLS Wrap-Up, the New York Red Bulls legend praised the 24-year-old attacker for always being there for Inter Miami whenever the Supporters’ Shield leaders ever need a striker to fill in for Suarez.
Although the Uruguayan star’s fitness hasn’t been as bad as Messi’s this year, Campana has been needed on more than one occasion this season to replace Suarez, and Wright-Phillips has always been impressed with the former Wolves man.
The MLS icon said when talking about Campana’s historic evening with Inter Miami: “He’s leading the way, and rightly so. With him, he knows he’s not going to be a main starter with Luis Suarez there and playing really well.
“The only thing Campana can do is when he gets opportunities is to take them, and everytime he’s been called upon and Inter Miami need a goal, he’s been there.”

Campana can lead Inter Miami to history this year
Campana has been one of Inter Miami’s best supporting cast members this season, with the striker impressing whenever given the chance by Martino and never kicking up a fuss over his lack of game time.
And with two trophies on the line in the final weeks of the season, Campana could be one of the many under-the-radar names who could lead Inter Miami to glory in the Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup.
With Messi and Suarez fully fit, Campana is the dream backup option for the pair in Inter Miami’s attack, and the Ecuador international will want to do all he can to fire the Herons to glory via a domestic double.
