Inter Miami have been the best side in MLS this year, with a key factor behind the Herons’ form being how good the squad has been beyond the star names.
To an outsider looking in, Inter Miami can be viewed as ‘the Lionel Messi team’, with the Argentine international the only reason why the Florida franchise have been as good as they have along with Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
However, just one glance at the numbers from this season and looking at Inter Miami’s performances will show that the supporting cast have been just as important for Tata Martino’s side, with Kieran Gibbs hailing Drake Callender and Julian Gressel as two standout players in the squad.
And MLS legend Bradley Wright-Phillips has named another Inter Miami player who has excelled this season.

Diego Gomez showered with praise after breakout year at Inter Miami
Writing for MLS’s official website, the pundit highlighted how good 21-year-old midfielder Diego Gomez has been this year for Inter Miami, with the Paraguay international the breakout star for the Florida franchise.
Gomez is reportedly set to join Brighton & Hove Albion in the January transfer window with Inter Miami receiving a club-record fee for the youngster, and Wright-Phillips believes the youngster has earned his move to the Premier League based on his form his year.
Wright-Phillips said about Gomez’s performances at Inter Miami this season: “Gomez’s ability to join the final third, get goals and cover ground defensively, there’s a reason Premier League teams want him.
“To shine like he does on a team that has Messi, Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba is very difficult. It shows you the kind of mentality and the head he has on his shoulders.”

Gomez has been influential in the Herons creating history this year
At 21-years-old, Gomez already looks like a seasoned pro at the highest level in soccer after the midfielder’s fantastic year in MLS with Inter Miami, where the youngster has been a real influence in the squad.
And ahead of a move to the Premier League in 2025, Gomez has more than earned his stripes to play in the biggest league in all of soccer, with the Inter Miami midfield built to compete in England for a club like Brighton.
With Gomez playing his part in Inter Miami making history this year, the 21-year-old will want to end the season on a high by winning MLS Cup, and the youngster looks set to feature heavily for the Herons in the post-season after this month’s international break.
