Inter Miami head into the 2024 MLS play-offs with a fantastic chance at going all the way in winning MLS Cup.
The Herons last week claimed the Supporters Shield with Inter Miami now just one week away from setting a new MLS regular season points record, currently held by the New England Revolution, the very side the Florida franchise face in their final game of the campaign.
With Lionel Messi back to full fitness and the likes of Leonardo Campana in great form, Inter Miami look unstoppable heading into the post-season, where Tata Martino’s side are rightly favorites heading into MLS Cup.
And MLS legend Bradley Wright-Phillips believes one Inteer Miami figure could now win a major award.

Martino tipped to as a favorite to win MLS Coach of the Year
Writing for MLS’s official website, the former striker said Martino is a favorite to win MLS Coach of the Year, with Wright-Phillips saying the Argentine manager is on par with the likes of the Colorado Rapids’ Chris Armas and the Columbus Crew’s Wilfried Nancy.
Whilst Armas is the odds-on-favorite given how big a surprise the former Manchester United coach has been in MLS with the Rapids, Martino is rightly in the mix as well given how good Inter Miami have been this season.
And although the excuse can be made that Inter Miami would have succeeded regardless of the manager, Martino has handled his squad expertly this season, with the roster depth the reason the Herons have been as good as they are.
Wright-Phillips said who could win Coach of the Year after suggesting Armas: “That said, I could see Tata Martino winning it. He’s been fantastic for Inter Miami in a job that’s more difficult than people realize. They’ve won the Supporters’ Shield and are on the verge of the regular season points record.”

Inter Miami would not be where they are now without Martino
Martino was hired last year specifically to help Inter Miami cope with superstar figures like Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets, with the former Mexico manager as perfect a hire as the Herons could come to.
And Inter Miami would not be where they are today had it not been for Martino, who has shown that his methods and tactical decisions have played a huge role in getting the Florida franchise across the line in the Supporters’ Shield race.
From shifting Busquets into central defense to using Diego Gomez as a jack-of-all-trades midfielder, the results speak for themselves, and Martino would be a worth winner of the MLS Coach of the Year award this year.
