Inter Miami are confirmed Supporters’ Shield winners win the MLS play-offs on the horizon, yet there’s still some history on the line.
The Herons face the New England Revolution in their final regular season game, where a win will see Inter Miami set a new MLS record for the points collected in a single campaign, currently held by their Chase Stadium opponents on Saturday.
With Lionel Messi fit and Inter Miami coming off two road wins, three points could be a formality given the Revolution’s poor form this year and their status as out of play-off contention long confirmed.
Yet Revs star Dave Romney has issued a warning to Inter Miami ahead of Saturday’s tie.

New England to do all they can to deny Inter Miami from MLS history
Speaking to the Boston Globe, the former Nashville SC defender has shared how he plans to do all he can to Inter Miami from taking the points record off New England, who have prided themselves in setting the accolade in the first place.
Romney said when asked what New England plan to do to stop Inter Miami: “Even though I wasn’t part of the 2021 team, that’s a huge record you want to defend for the club, the fans, and the guys on the team who earned that record.
“If I’m playing, I’m going to be working as hard as I can to get a result in Miami to preserve that record and keep the Supporters’ Shield points record in New England. This Miami team is one of the best in MLS history. And then, just the pride of keeping that record in New England.
“It’s a record that’s something to be extremely proud of. I know all the 2021 guys worked their — off to get that record. It’s something that you kind of want to see etched in stone for a long time.”

Inter Miami need to send a message ahead of the play-offs
Inter Miami will have a target on their backs heading into MLS Cup, with the Herons the team to beat for every side taking part in this season’s play-offs.
Yet breaking the regular season points record in style will send a message to the rest of MLS that Inter Miami are not to be messed with, and that the Florida franchise have what it takes to go all the way in the post-season.
A thunderous performance against New England to make history could leave some MLS sides worried about what’s to come in the post-season, with Inter Miami having the best squad the league has ever seen.
