'Sensational' talent and two other Argentina youngsters Javier Mascherano could sign for Inter Miami

Inter Miami are closing in on the appointment of Javier Mascherano, with the Argentina U-23 manager set to take over from Tata Martino.

The former FC Barcelona defender is set to take on his first manager role at club level with Mascherano set to be named as Inter Miami’s new head coach, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez reuniting with a former teammate.

With Mascherano interested in signing Angel Di Maria, the incoming Inter Miami manager seemingly has some big plans already for what sort of transfers he wants to make this January, with the Herons expected to spend big.

And here are three Argentina U-23 players Mascherano could look to sign for Inter Miami.

Cristian Medina

Central midfield is likely to be one of the many positions Inter Miami will look to strengthen in January, and Boca Juniors talent Cristian Medina could be an ideal signing for the Herons with Mascherano at the helm.

Medina was linked with Inter Miami at the start of the year, with the Argentina talent part of Mascherano’s squad that traveled to the Olympics this summer after a sensational year at club level with Boca.

With Medina already on Inter Miami’s radar, it might not take much for Mascherano to convince the 22-year-old Argentine youth international to swap Buenas Aires for Florida, where the midfielder could be ideal for next season.

Joaquin Garcia

With Marcelo Weigandt potentially returning to Boca Juniors from his loan spell and Ian Fray out injured for Inter Miami next year, a right-back will be a position Mascherano might want to invest in this summer.

And Joaquin Garcia could be an ideal signing for just such a role, with the 23-year-old a regular for Argentina Primera Division leaders Velez Sarsfield, as well as another youngster Mascherano took to France for the Olympics.

With the prospect of forming a fullback partnership with Jordi Alba a tempting one for any aspiring defender from South America, Garcia could be sold on the Inter Miami project this January, especially if he can end the year as Argentina league champions with Velez.

Marco Di Cesare

Much like with central midfielder, center-back is an area of the roster that Inter Miami will need to heavily invest in if they’re to go all the way in MLS Cup next season, and Marco Di Cesare could be a dream signing for the Herons.

One of the most exciting central defenders in all of South America who is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder, Di Cesare fits the bill for what Inter Miami are looking for in a new defender in the winter window.

Although the 22-year-old recently joined Racing Club, the pull of playing with Lionel Messi under Mascherno at Inter Miami could be too tempting for Di Cesare to turn down, and a move to Florida could be an exciting one for the youngster heading into 2025.
