Inter Miami are already preparing for the 2025 season, and with New Year’s approaching, it’s a good time to review the best and worst of the 2024 campaign.
The current off-season for the Herons is serving both to shape what could be the squad for the upcoming season and to reflect on what went well and what went wrong during the previous campaign.
While rumors, such as the one linking Pablo Torre from FC Barcelona to Inter Miami, remain alive, the fans are also taking a look back at what was, for many, a bittersweet year.
Inter Miami fans have voted for the biggest disappointment of the season, and their choice is sure to surprise both followers and outsiders.

Leonardo Campana named Inter Miami’s disappointment of the year by fans
Battered Herons, a podcast about Inter Miami hosted by team fans, organized an awards ceremony covering the entire 2024 season.
In the category of biggest disappointment of the year, surprisingly, fans voted for Leonardo Campana, the 24-year-old Ecuadorian forward.
Recently, it was reported that Campana wants to stay at Inter Miami following the arrival of Javier Mascherano as the team’s new coach.
Despite some rumors circulating in the press, such as the supposed interest of Inter Miami in Miguel Merentiel from Boca Juniors, it seems that the Ecuadorian forward wants to continue representing the Herons.
It’s worth noting that both Leonardo Campana and goalkeeper Drake Callender received the same percentage of votes for the biggest disappointment of the season, with 28.8%.
After this tie was revealed and discussions about who was more disappointing than the other began, the podcast hosts simply commented, “Drake (Callender) had his moments, but so did (Leonardo) Campana.”
How many goals did Leonardo Campana score in the 2024 season?
Far from being a renowned superstar alongside forwards like Lionel Messi or Luis Suárez, Leonardo Campana is a key player when it comes to squad depth.
The Ecuadorian striker registered 8 goals and 2 assists in the MLS and also scored a goal in the Leagues Cup, bringing his total to 11 goal contributions in 35 games.
Competition | Games played | Goals | Assists |
MLS/MLS play-offs | 30 | 8 | 2 |
Leagues Cup | 4 | 1 | 0 |
CONCACAF Champions Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Total | 35 | 9 | 2 |
While the spotlight often falls on the more veteran stars, who carry the weight of leading the team, it’s clear that their age means they can’t feature in every match.
Having a young player like Campana, capable of stepping in for the superstars at any time, is essential. If he wishes to stay with Inter Miami, the club’s management should certainly make that happen.
