Javier Mascherano’s Inter Miami squad is starting to take shape ahead of the 2025 season.
The Argentine recently secured his first signing as Herons boss, following Fafa Picault’s arrival from the Vancouver Whitecaps as a free agent.
Inter Miami however are not stopping there in their transfer quest, as they eye up several other targets across the globe – the latest of those being Gonzalo Luján.
Inter Miami in talks with San Lorenzo to sign Gonazlo Lujan
Despite picking up the Supporters’ Shield with a record points tally, Inter Miami were shaky at the back at the best of times, with their defense being plagued by injuries throughout 2024.
With that being said, Mascherano seems to be targeting some defensive reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
That is according to Leandro Alves on X (formerly Twitter), who states Inter Miami are in talks to sign Argentina U23 defender Gonazlo Lujan.
“Inter Miami negotiates with San Lorenzo a loan with an option of 4MM for Gonzalo Luján. Mascherano already took it to the Olympics with Argentina.”

Having managed the Argentina youth sides before his Miami arrival, Mascherano has a depth of knowledge when it comes to South American football – especially when it comes to emerging talents in his homeland.
Mascherano most recently took charge of Argentina’s 2024 Olympics side, selecting Lujan as one of his defenders.
Lujan would go on to make three appearances at the tournament as La Albiceleste reached the quarter-finals.
The 23-year-old’s Olympic selection suggests Mascherano is a fan of his talents, which could give Inter Miami the upper hand to secure his services.
