Everything you need to know about Drake Callender, Inter Miami’s unsung hero

The Inter Miami roster contains several soccer superstars as well as a number of unsung heroes.

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets regularly catch the headlines, but Inter Miami’s recent success can also be credited to some so-called lesser-known names – including the likes of Drake Callender.

Having recently reached over 100 appearances for the Herons, Callender has become a mainstay in the Inter Miami first-team over the past few years.

The shot-stopper played a big role in the club’s Supporters’ Shield success, so much so that Kieran Gibbs highlighted Callender’s importance when it comes to winning trophies.

Despite his recent success at the Chase Stadium, not much is really known of Callender outside of Miami – so here is all you need to know about the Herons number one.

Drake Steven Callender is currently 27 years old at the time of writing. He was born on October 7, 1997.

Callender is an American having been born in Sacramento, California. He has been called up to the USMNT on multiple occasions but he is yet to receive his first cap.

Drake Callender stats

Drake Callender’s soccer career began with the San Jose Earthquakes – spending three years with their youth academy between 2013 to 2016.

He would then begin playing college soccer for the California Golden Bears, earning himself a very strong reputation within the college soccer scene.

Inter Miami would then acquire Callender’s homegrown player rights from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for the 27th draft pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.

Callender would spend time out on loan at Fort Lauderdale CF before returning to Inter Miami and eventually becoming the club’s number one.

The 27-year-old’s talents were soon recognised by then USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter, who handed Callender his first national team call-up in 2023.

According to Capology, Callender earns a reported $6,731 a week, which equates to roughly $349,992 annually.
