When it comes to ranking the greatest soccer players of all time, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo often sit at the top of people’s lists.
With a simply outstanding 13 Ballon d’Ors between, not much split the pair – with opinions often divided amongst fans and players on who is the best.
Eden Hazard for example ranks Messi as the GOAT, meanwhile, Weston Mckennie believes Ronaldo is the best.
More recently, however, USMNT star Christian Pulisic has revealed his thoughts on the age-old GOAT.

Christian Pulisic picks Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo in best player debate
Many may have thought Pulisic may be in the same camp as his US teammate McKennie, that however is seemingly not the case.
In a September 2024 interview with GOAL, Pulisic was asked to pick the best players from a number of categories – one of those being ‘best player in the world’.
The AC Milan star decided to pick Messi for this category, whilst picking Ronaldo as the ‘best finisher’ – later going on to choose between the pair in the semi-final stage of the quiz.
Pulisic would choose Messi over Ronaldo again, even going on to pick the former Barcelona star over his idol Luis Figo.
What has Pulisic said about Messi’s Inter Miami move
Having picked Messi as the best player in the world, Pulisic would have no doubt loved to see the Argentine arrive in US back in 2023.
With that being said, Pulisic claimed Messi has been ‘fantastic’ for the MLS, revealing he is a huge fan of the 37-year-old’s Inter Miami move.
“I can’t say it’s not expected. He [Messi] is, of course, the best to really ever do it. After having the World Cup he did and then obviously being back in MLS, it’s been fantastic for the league.
“The buzz around the league, around Miami whenever they play, it seems like a big televised game. Players like that are going to bring in fans, new fans to watch the league, and for me it’s only a positive thing.”
