Inter Miami are in the midst of the January transfer window, with this month shaping up to be an exciting one for the Herons.
James Rodriguez has once again emerged as a target for Javier Mascherano’s side, with Inter Miami also believed to be in the mix to sign Angel Di Maria as Lionel Messi’s influence at the club continues to grow going into 2025.
As well as experienced superstars, the Florida franchise are eyeing younger players, with Inter Miami believed to be in the mix for San Lorenzo youngster Ivan Leguizamon, who has been involved in the Argentina national team set-up already.
Yet it appears that Inter Miami have missed out on the signing of Leguizamon.

Ivan Leguizamon set to snub Inter Miami transfer for Olimpia
According to Leandro Alves, Leguizamon is set to join Paraguayan giants Olimpia, with the journalist posting: “Ivan Leguizamon will become a player of Olimpia. San Lorenzo and the Franjeado have already exchanged contracts. $2m transfer with 50% sell-on clause.”
With Inter Miami missing out on a promising target for as little as $2m, the Herons will feel annoyed that they have been beaten to the signing of Leguizamon by Olimpia, especially with the Florida franchise as appealing as they are.
Indeed, with the Herons not short of targets, such as former Argentina international Nahuel Guzman, missing out on Leguizamon will not feel like the end of the world for Inter Miami despite the defender’s quality and potential.
But with Olimpia securing Leguizamon’s signature for just $2m, questions will be asked on Inter Miami’s actual transfer strategy this January and what Mascherano is in the market for ahead of a massive 2025 season.

Who should Inter Miami be looking to sign in January?
2024 was a big step in the right direction for Inter Miami, with the Herons winning the Supporters’ Shield with a record regular-season points tally whilst playing some of the most entertaining soccer in all of MLS.
However, every supporter and their mother will tell Inter Miami that the backline simply wasn’t strong enough to compete for other honors, with MLS Cup, Leagues Cup and the CONCACAF Champions Cup all flying by the waistside.
As a result, defenders have to be the priority for Inter Miami this January, and missing out on top talents like Leguizamon will sting for the Herons, who need to return to the drawing board in regards to targets.
