Inter Miami’s pre-season preparations for the 2025 season are set to get underway this January.

Pre-season will undoubtedly be a vital time for Javier Mascherano, as he looks to get to grips with his new squad.

The Argentine will also get his first glimpse of new free-agent signing Fafa Picault, with rumored Inter Miami signing Gonazlo Lujan also potentially involved.

In terms of their pre-season schedule, Mexican giants Club America are first up for the Herons on Saturday, Jan 18.

The three-time LIGA MX winners will present a difficult first game in charge for Mascherano – a task he must overcome with two important first-team players.

Drake Callender and Benjamin Cremaschi miss pre-season opener due to USMNT call-up

The new Herons boss will no doubt be hoping to get off to the perfect start in pre-season, but he must do so without Drake Callender and Benjamin Cremaschi.

That is because the pair have been called up for the USMNT’s January camp for the games against Venezuela and Costa Rica.

The Yanks’ first game against Venezuela will take place on the same day as Inter Miami’s clash with Club America – meaning both Callender and Cremaschi will miss Mascherano’s first game in charge.

Callender, who is yet to make his first appearance for the USMNT could make his long-awaited international debut. Cremaschi meanwhile will also be hoping to impress new boss Mauricio Pochettino following the success of his Paris Olympics call-up.

Who could replace Callender and Cremaschi?

Mascherano would have hoped to have his number-one goalkeeper and one of his best midfielders on the pitch for his first game as Miami head coach – he now however will have to find some suitable replacements.

In terms of goalkeeper replacements, options are currently limited following CJ Dos Santos’ move to San Diego. Veteran shot-stopper Oscar Ustari will likely step in, providing some experience at the back for Miami.

Moving into midfield, options are far more plenty – with the likes of David Ruiz, Yannick Bright, and Federico Redondo all capable midfield replacements.
