Inter Miami have opening offer rejected for South American defender – he ‘wants to leave’

Inter Miami have been busy in the January transfer window, yet the Herons are yet to really get started with the bulk of their business.

Javier Mascherano’s side have made just one signing so far in the market in the form of MLS veteran Fafa Picault, with Inter Miami now closing in on a deal for San Lorenzo defender Gonzalo Lujan as their second addition of the winter market.

With Neymar publically stating that he wants to play alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez again, Inter Miami could be about to pull off a superstar signing in bringing the Brazilian international to Chase Stadium.

Yet it appears that Inter Miami’s attention is currently elsewhere, with the Herons having an opening bid rejected for a South American defender.

Inter Miami make first move to sign Colo-Colo defender Maximiliano Falcon

According to La Tercera, Inter Miami have had an opening bid rejected for Colo-Colo’s Uruguayan defender Maximiliano Falcon, with the report stating the 27-year-old center-back ‘wants to leave’ the Chilean giants.

A former Uruguay youth international, Falcon played a key role in Colo-Colo’s run to last year’s Copa Libertadores quarter-finals, scoring the winning goal in the round-of-16 clash against Colombian side FC Junior.

Yet after nearly five years at Colo-Colo, Falcon is now ready for a new chapter in his career, with the defender pushing for a move this January having deliberately missed training this week after Inter Miami’s opening bid was rejected.

Indeed, with Inter Miami in desperate need of quality defenders this January, Falcon would tick a lot of boxes for what the Herons are looking for in a center-back signing, and the Colo-Colo star’s eagerness to leave

What other defenders have Inter Miami been linked with this January?

With one of the leakiest defenses in MLS last year, recruiting center-backs has become an understandable mission statement for Mascherano and Inter Miami this January.

And aside from superstar names like Neymar, the Herons are sticking to this plan, with Inter Maimi also linked with the likes of Marc Bartra as well as Chile international and River Plate star Paulo Diaz.

With the new MLS season starting next month, the entire backline could see a makeover with Inter Miami keen to iron out the problems that plagued them last year, and signing a top player like Falcon would be a big step in the right direction.
