There have been several high-profile departures from Inter Miami over the offseason and Facundo Farias was looking like becoming the latest.
However, the Argentine has been training with the side as the Herons prepare for their tough pre-season which begins against Club America.
Manager Javier Mascherano has been ‘worried’ about Inter Miami’s signings, or lack of so losing Farias may not be high on the agenda.
Inter Miami recently agreed on a deal for Telasco Segovia though, he plays in a similar position to Farias meaning his future remains uncertain.
Mascherano coy on Farias’ future
Farias has been linked with a move away from Inter Miami, it could even be in a swap deal for midfielder Baltasar Rodriguez.
The 22-year-old joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2023 from Colon for $5m but has made just 11 MLS appearances since his arrival.
He missed the entirety of last season through injury after a cruciate ligament tear.
Mascherano was questioned whether Farias would be staying with the club beyond pre-season, his answer was very cryptic.
He said: “He is with us, he is training. As long as he remains at Inter Miami we will count on him.”
Farias looking to impress in pre-season
As previously highlighted Inter Miami face a tough pre-season schedule which sees them fly to three different countries.
While the Herons are short in defense they have bolstered their attack meaning that Farias will face competition for places.
Inter Miami signed Fafa Picault and are closing in on striker Tadeo Allende from Celta Vigo.
Mascherano also added two attacking talents from the MLS SuperDraft, in the form of striker Michael Appiah and attacking midfielder Bailey Sparks, who will provide direct competition to Farias.
Farias was signed with some serious potential, and although Inter Miami fans have seen very little of him there is every chance he will be looking to make up for lost time in 2025.
He would certainly do his chances of staying at the club no harm if he shows his new manager what he can do against Club America.
With Lionel Messi’s pre-season minutes uncertain he should be given a fair shot.
