While Lionel Messi is often the envy of his teammates for his unquestionable ability it can sometimes cause friction.
Messi is loving his football in the MLS after struggling to fit in during his time with French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe was ‘jealous’ of Lionel Messi – Neymar
Messi has long been regarded as a soccer GOAT by many and current teammate Federico Redondo spoke of the ‘great quality’ that makes him the ‘best in the world.’
The Argentine’s impact has stretched beyond the soccer field as well. Messi was praised by NBA star Steph Curry as an ‘inspiration.’
The record-holding Ballon d’Or winner is still showing his immense quality despite now being 37, Messi won the MLS MVP in 2024.
While most embrace Messi’s brilliance his former Barcelona teammate explained how this wasn’t the case during his time with PSG.
Speaking to ESPN Neymar highlighted how his relationship with Kylian Mbappe changed following the arrival of Messi, saying: “We had some good years of partnership, but after Messi came he was a little jealous. He didn’t want to split me with anyone. And then there were some fights, a behavior change.”
Neymar went on to highlight how ‘ego’s had an impact on the success of the PSG team, despite not naming anybody.
He said: “It is good to have egos, but you have to know that you don’t play alone, there needs to be another guy by your side. [Big] egos were almost everywhere, it can’t work. If nobody runs and nobody helps, it is impossible to win anything.”

Neymar’s potential Inter Miami future
Neymar has declared his interest in playing with Messi and Luis Suarez, however, an Inter Miami move would require considerable work.
Suarez has spoken about the ‘difficulties’ of signing Neymar whilst Inter Miami continue to face competition for the Brazilian’s signing.
The Chicago Fire are reportedly in talks with Neymar and a further challenger for his signature has now emerged.
According to journalist Paparazzo Rubro-Negro Neymar’s former club Santos is now in the race to sign the star.
Wherever Neymar ends up it looks highly unlikely he will be remaining with Al-Hilal following coach Jorge Jesus’s latest comments about the star ‘not being at the required level.’
Inter Miami will continue to monitor the Neymar situation but a deal will be tricky.
