David Beckham brought MLS to south Florida after founding Inter Miami, with the franchise since becoming one of the most recognized soccer brands in the world.
The 2023 arrival of Lionel Messi put Inter Miami on the map with the Herons since adding the likes of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez to their roster, with former FC Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano last month appointed as head coach.
Although Inter Miami failed to sign Neymar this January, it’s clear that the Chase Stadium side have some huge plans in the pipeline with the reigning Supporters’ Shield holders set to compete in this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
And Beckham has now shared what has been the biggest challenge at Inter Miami since becoming co-owner.

Beckham admits growing Inter Miami has been difficult but rewarding
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, the former Manchester United and England star shared how growing Inter Miami into what it is today has been the most challenging venture in his business career, but also the most rewarding.
Beckham said: “It’s been a challenge, and I would say it’s been the hardest challenge, actually, in my career and in my business, but also the most rewarding. It’s the most rewarding for so many reasons, seeing the team grow, to see the franchise grow, to see the club grow and to see what we have now.”
Indeed, Beckham brining MLS to Miami and then recruiting Messi has been nothing short of a masterstroke from the former England superstar, and watching the Argentine week-in week-out at Chase Stadium has made this entire journey worth it for the Inter Miami co-owner.
Beckham later added when talking about Messi playing for Inter Miami”I now sit back in my seat in Miami in that stadium, and Leo walks out onto the pitch and I’m so proud of that.”
Beckham’s biggest challenge with Inter Miami is about to begin
With Messi winning MLS MVP last year and Inter Miami claiming the Supporters’ Shield title, 2024 was a successful enough year for Inter Miami despite they disappointments that were the MLS play-offs and the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

But with Inter Miami taking part in the Club World Cup and Mascherano making a number of impressive signings already this January, 2025 is shaping up to be an even bigger and better year for the Florida franchise.
Indeed, Inter Miami’s win against Club America was the perfect way to start pre-season, and Beckham will know that this year could see his franchise face their biggest challenges yet ahead of the 2025 campaign next month.
