Inter Miami agree to sell ‘risky’ player – he didn’t play a single minute last season

Inter Miami have been one of the busiest MLS teams in the January transfer window, with plenty of signings and outgoings being made.

The Herons have seen a number of key players from last season’s Supporters’ Shield winning squad depart with Inter Miami selling Leonardo Campana to the New England Revolution as Matias Rojas joined River Plate having been released.

With Javier Mascherano planning more signings for Inter Miami this off-season, there has always been a growing sense that more big-name players could leave Chase Stadium if the right offer comes in this January, with Drake Callender rumored with an exit from Florida.

And having sold Campana and Rojas, another Inter Miami attacker is now set to leave with an agreement in place.

Inter Miami to sell Facundo Farias to Estudiantes

According to TyC Sports, Inter Miami have struck a deal with Argentine side Estudiantes to sell 22-year-old attacker Facundo Farias, who did not feature for the Herons on Sunday in their pre-season win against Club America.

Mascherano had previously hinted that Farias could be sold this winter, with the report stating that the ‘risky’ forward will join Estudiantes on a four-year contract having bought 70% of the player’s rights from the Herons.

With Inter Miami linked with River Plate attacker Santiago Simon, allowing Farias to leave will open up an International Spot to allow the Florida franchise to move for the Argentine youth international this winter.

And with Farias not playing a single minute of soccer last year, the 22-year-old’s departure from Inter Miami this window makes complete sense, with the attacker in need of a fresh start away from Chase Stadium.

Why did Farias miss every Inter Miami game last season?

Farias was brought in during the same summer as Lionel Messi, with the attacker showing plenty of bright moments in his first few months in MLS alongside the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

However, the youngster’s career in MLS was turned upside down when Farias ruptured his ACL in Inter Miami’s first pre-season game of 2024, ruling the forward out for the entire year.

With Farias only returning to Inter Miami training at the end of last year, the Argentine will be disappointed he won’t get another shot at playing for the Herons, especially with Mascherano now at the helm for the Florida franchise.
