Inter Miami have had a successful pre-season so far, with the Herons undefeated and making six new signings.
Last night saw the Florida franchise secure a 3-1 win against Sporting San Miguelito, with Inter Miami fans impressed with Tadeo Allende’s performance having joined from La Liga side Celta Vigo on loan for the season.
With Inter Miami still linked with the likes of Baltasar Rodriguez, there’s a real chance that the Florida franchise could head into the 2025 MLS season with seven or even eight new additions in Javier Mascherano’s squad.
And there’s one player in particular that the former Argentina youth manager wants to bring in if Inter Miami can make the deal possible in the coming weeks.
Mascherano wants Inter Miami to bring in Milton Delgado
According to El Crack Deportivo, Mascherano is interested in signing Milton Delgado, with the 19-year-old Boca Juniors midfielder a target for the Argentine coach as the former FC Barcelona defender looks to add to his squad.
Noted by Target Scouting as an ‘aggressive’ midfielder, Delgado is yet to really break into the Boca Juniors first-team having come through the South American giant’s academy, with the youngster only making 17 appearances in all competitions.
Which is why a move to Inter Miami could be appealing for Delgado, who under Mascherano could become the next youngster to make a name for himself at Chase Stadium after the success of Diego Gomez last year.
However, with Inter Miami having four quality central midfield options, Delgado could find it hard to break into Mascherano’s system, especially with the likes of Benjamin Cremaschi and Federico Redondo two players who are in a similar stage in their career as the Boca Juniors youngster.
Milton Delgado could be ideal for Inter Miami in 2026
With two quality prospects for the future in Cremaschi and Redondo as well as a breakthrough midfield star in Yannick Bright, Delgado will struggle greatly to become a regular for Inter Miami if signed this year.
However, with Inter Miami likely to sell at least one of their midfield stars in the next 12 months, there’s a likely chance that Delgado could become the ideal signing for the Herons in 2026 where a spot will become open.
Indeed, Delgado is at the start of his soccer career having only just broken into the Boca Juniors first-team, and the midfielder could be better prepared for a move to Inter Miami 12 months from now after more experience in Argentina.
