Tata Martino has claimed an Inter Miami player had an ‘unusual’ game against Toronto despite playing a key role in the 3-1 win.

The Herons returned to the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings with an impressive home win against John Herdman’s Toronto, with Diego Gomez and a Federico Redondo brace the difference-maker for Inter Miami at Chase Stadium.

With Lionel Messi out indefinitely, Inter Miami again showed their overall squad quality with an impressive win at home against Toronto, with Luis Suarez also making a 30-minute appearance from the substitutes bench.

Yet Martino believes one Inter Miami star did something quite unusual against Toronto.

Martino surprised by Federico Redondo’s goalscoring heroics

Speaking to the press after Inter Miami’s big win against Toronto, Martino highlighted how it was odd to see Redondo score twice on the night, with the Argentine youth international starting as the deepest midfielder in the XI.

With the brace the first goals Redondo has scored for Inter Miami since joining earlier this year, seeing the youngster pop up on the scoresheet was certainly a surprise to supporters, and Martino himself was caught off guard by what he saw from the 21-year-old.

Martino said when asked about Redondo’s performance for Inter Miami against Toronto last night: “Fede started the game a bit unsure about himself, but I think as the game went on, he settled in.

“Obviously for us, it’s very unusual that our right-sided midfielder scores two goals in a single game, but it is very good news. In the final 15 minutes, he settled well, and I think he rounded off the game well with the second goal.”

Redondo showed for Inter Miami vs Toronto that he can be something big

Redondo was quite the acquisition for Inter Miami earlier this year, with the Argentine talent opting to head to Florida rather than Europe despite some serious interest from big clubs.

And against Toronto, Redondo showed why he can become such a huge talent for Inter Miami, with the midfielder showing he’s more than just a tidy passer and presser in the center of the park.

Indeed, Redondo has the potential to become a real superstar in Europe, and the youngster’s performance against Toronto showed that the Inter Miami youngster is on the right path to stardom.
