Luis Suarez has shared a concerning injury update after Inter Miami’s 2-0 Leagues Cup win against Club Puebla.

The Florida franchise started their title defense with a good result at Chase Stadium, with Matias Rojas and Suarez on the scoresheet as Inter Miami once again impressed without Lionel Messi available for selection.

With the Argentine making good progress on his recovery, Inter Miami have used the quality of their squad to its maximum potential with the Herons winning seven of their last eight games in all competitions.

Yet Suarez last night highlighted a worrying injury update for himself.

Suarez reveals ‘discomfort’ this week ahead of Inter Miami game

Speaking to the press, Suarez shared that he had been feeling ‘discomfort’ in his body heading into last night’s game, with the striker pulling out of MLS All-Star week as a result, despite hardly playing for Uruguay at the Copa America.

With Suarez struggling with fitness issues with Gremio last year, it’s no real surprise that the attacker is now starting to feel the physical effects of playing for Inter Miami, yet that hasn’t stopped the forward’s form from dropping.

Suarez said on his fitness: “I always want to play, whether I have pain or I don’t have pain. Last year I suffered a lot at Gremio. This week I had some discomfort, but my body asked me to play because the club needed me and I wanted to be here.

“I gave maximum effort, I was happy to help the team. Some goals you enjoy a little less because your teammates make it so easy for you to score, but they are goals all the same and I am coming off a difficult week, so it felt good to score.”

Herons need to do everything to keep Suarez healthy this summer

With Messi out for a few more games at a minimum, Inter Miami keeping their other star players fit and healthy is of the utmost importance, and Suarez certainly fits into this category.

The Uruguay superstar showed last night, even when playing in discomfort, that he is one of the best attackers in North America and a forward that defenses will fear if he’s given half a chance.

And for this summer, Inter Miami need to ensure that they’re not overplaying the former FC Barcelona superstar, with Tata Martino having depth on the bench to keep Suarez as fresh as possible.
