Tata Martino has issued his opinion on David Martnez’s debut for Inter Miami this weekend in the Leagues Cup against Club Puebla.
The River Plate defender was signed earlier this week, with Inter Miami landing Martinez on loan for the remainder of the year whilst holding an option to make the deal permanent come the end of the season.
With Nicolas Freire out for the rest of the campaign, signing a center-back was paramount for Inter Miami the second the summer transfer window opened, with the Herons doing just that by bringing in Martinez from Argentina.
And Inter Miami manager Martino has given his verdict on Martinez’s debut.

Martino impressed by Martinez after Inter Miami win vs Puebla
Speaking to the press after last night’s Leagues Cup win, Martino hailed Martinez after his performance against Puebla, with the defender playing the full 90 minutes no less than 48 hours after officially being announced as a new Inter Miami player.
Given how little time Martinez had to prepare for the this game, the Paraguay international more than impressed for Inter Miami as the Herons look to reclaim their Leagues Cup title without Lionel Messi available.
And for Martino, the former Mexico manager was happy with what he saw from Martinez, who after just a few days in Florida has already adjusted to life at Chase Stadium and looks at home in central defense.
Martino said on Martinez’s debut: “David had a good debut, he had to play 90 minutes for unfortunate reasons because of Toto’s [Aviles] injury, but he did what he had to do, especially considering he has only been with us a few days.”

Herons might have landed a coup in Martinez this summer
Inter Miami have used their profile to the absolute max since the signing of Messi last year, with the Herons landing numerous top signings well within their financial means to build arguably the best team in MLS history.
And in signing Martinez, Inter Miami have landed yet another coup having already recruited the likes of Matias Rojas, Julian Gressel and Marcelo Weigandt earlier this year on similar deals.
Indeed, the defender could play a massive role in Inter Miami’s quest to win Leagues Cup, MLS Cup and the Supporters’ Shield, and Martinez has made the perfect first impression on his new side.
