Inter Miami have established themselves in the last 12 months as the most recognizable MLS team on the planet since the signing of Lionel Messi.

The arrival of the Argentine international has changed everything for the Herons, with the Florida franchise becoming the worst team in MLS to the best and one of the most ambitious in all of world soccer.

The hiring of Tata Martino and big moves for Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez have made Inter Miami a club that many MLS teams should be inspired to become, with the potential of the league yet to be fully realized.

And Inter Miami could be about to make another league-defining move.

Inter Miami plotting $15m bid to sign Juventus star Weston McKennie

According to Juve Live, Inter Miami are ready to make a ‘surreal’ €14m ($15m) offer to sign Juventus midfielder and USA international Weston McKennie, who is tipped to be on the move this summer.

Inter Miami have been linked with a move for McKennie already this window, with a return to America seemingly on the cards for the FC Dallas academy graduate despite his age and experience in Europe in recent years.

Noted by Jesse Marsch via CBS Sports as a ‘crazy’ player, McKennie heading back to MLS and joining Inter Miami would go down as arguably the biggest signing of the summer, even more so than the likes of Olivier Giroud joining LAFC.

Indeed, whether or not Inter Miami can even afford McKennie within their limited salary space is another question entirely, yet the Herons can’t be faulted for moving for the midfielder this summer.

McKennie could be a dream for the Herons in a few years time

At 25-years-old, the odds of McKennie swapping in top European soccer for a return to America feels slim, even with MLS as big as it’s ever been and with the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming to the United States.

Yet in a few years time when the likes of Messi are gone from Inter Miami, McKennie could be a realistic target for Inter Miami as part of the next evolution of the franchise and MLS as a whole.

Signing European-based players in their prime is the ultimate end goal for MLS, and Inter Miami doing just that for McKennie later down the line should be a realistic goal for the Herons.
