Lionel Messi has elevated Inter Miami to a whole new level since joining last year, with Leonardo Campana one player who has benefited massively.
Campana became Inter Miami’s all-time leading goalscorer this month after bagging his 30th goal for the Herons, replacing Gonzalo Higuain to top spot and beating the likes of Messi and Luis Suarez to the esteemed accolade.
With Campana viewed as backup for Suarez, minutes have been hard to come by for the Ecuador international this season, though that hasn’t stopped the former Wolves star from being a key operator for Inter Miami.
And the 24-year-old attacker has now shared what it’s really like training with Messi.

Campana in awe by how good Messi is in Inter Miami training
Speaking to AS, Campana shared how much he appreciates getting to train with Messi, with the Inter Miami star saying: “Everyone wants to know what he’s like as a person. Since you have him around so much on a daily basis and you see him all the time, you end up assimilating the reality.
“He’s an incredible person, very calm, very humble. He brings out the best in each player and obviously I would love to be out there on the same pitch as him for as long as I can.
“I have a memory from one of the first training sessions. He finished off an amazing move in training, scores a great goal and we all just stood up and started applauding.
“That’s what a player like him does to you, you don’t see it anywhere else. He scores great goals every day. People just see this here and say: ‘Wow! You can’t do anything else but marvel at him.’”

Messi is pushing his teammates to new heights this season
With Messi missing half the campaign due to international commitments or injury, Inter Miami have had to rely on their supporting cast for the majority of the year to get results in the regular MLS season.
And Campana is just one example of a player who has benefited greatly from training with the likes of Messi, Suarez and Sergio Busquets to push his performances on the pitch to new heights.
Seven goals and two assists from a backup striker is a solid return given who Campana has ahead of him, and the former Wolves man has been huge for Inter Miami in their bid to win the Supporters’ Shield.
