Award season is finally upon us in MLS, and Inter Miami could come away with a number of the top accolades on offer.
Lionel Messi is tipped to win MLS MVP whereas Tata Martino is a favorite to scoop up MLS Manager of the Year, with Inter Miami already winning the Supporters’ Shield and setting a new regular-season points record.
With Inter Miami also strong favorites to win MLS Cup, this year is proving to be quite a successful one for the Herons, with the Florida franchise heading into 2025 as the most exciting team in MLS with arguably the best squad the league has ever seen.
Yet not everything is granted for Inter Miami this year, with Luis Suarez missing out on a big award.

Gabriel Pec beats Suarez to MLS Newcomer of the Year award
As per MLS’s official website, LA Galaxy attacker Gabriel Pec has pipped Suarez to MLS Newcomer of the Year, with the Brazil youth international enjoying a sensational debut year in the United States with the MLS giants.
Following the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Miguel Almiron and Thiago Almada in winning the award, Pec edged out against Suarez in voting for Newcome of the Year, with the Inter Miami star coming second for the accolade.
Luis Suarez’s 2024 Inter Miami stats | Gabriel Pec’s 2024 LA Galaxy stats | |
Games played | 36 | 38 |
Goals | 25 | 19 |
Assists | 12 | 18 |
As per the two forwards stats for 2024, though, there’s good reason why Pec just beat Suarez to MLS Newcomer of the Year, with the 23-year-old having the same number of goal contributions than the Inter Miami star with 37 in all competitions.
And with Pec playing more games for the Galaxy and joining MLS as a relative unknown compared to Suarez, it’s perhaps no surprise why the Brazilian talent beat out the striking legend for the award, with the 23-year-old making a real name for himself.

Suarez will be focused on winning MLS Cup with Inter Miami
Suarez might not have won MLS Newcomer of the Year, but with Inter Miami in the hunt for MLS Cup, the former Uruguay international will not be too fazed about losing an individual award.
Inter Miami have stated for most of the year that winning MLS Cup is the end goal for 2024, with the Herons in need of beating Atlanta United if they’re to book their ticket to the next round of the play-offs.
And for Suarez, the striker will want to end the year on a big high by winning the biggest prize in American soccer, with the attacker locked in to help Inter Miami win MLS Cup at long last.
